What was the highlight of Golden Tulip São João da Madeira Hotel
Overall good but with a disappointing shower
Room is spacious and with an OK sound isolation. The staff was polite and the dinner at the restaurant was very good. Parking was also OK having the possibility to park underground. Bed was confortable.
The shower was very disappointing. It was small and the pipe was bronken letting out water from it when the shower was turned on. It also took ages for the water to heat up and it did not heat up well. The pillows from the bed were also not good.

Clean but that’s not enough to make you stay in this hotel
Clean hotel .
There are many things we didn’t like at all: 1. We booked this hotel especially for the swimming pool and it was closed . They told us this information was already specified on booking but if you search for it it’s with small letters in a not visually place. 2. Breakfast . Very poor , we arrived at 9 am and even if there were like 2 people literally in the whole dinning room there was so little food and NO variety. (We traveled the same week in many locations and hotels and this breakfast was the poorest) 3. We had half board and when we asked for Coca Cola (Pepsi in This case ) they didn’t have any left … We are talking about a 4 stars hotel!!!!!!! Only 2 options of the main course. 4. The room was clean BUT!!! There was a smell … we had to sleep with the window opened. Like an old furniture smell . I am so sorry for this hotel . It is huge and nice and has a lot of potential but there are so little guests and something is wrong with their business . I wish them good luck in the future

Decent
Good spacious rooms and clean rooms and bathrooms
Breakfast and serving area was not up to the mark. Also first day, there was no hot water in the morning. Should keep a tea/ coffee maker in the room
